A 12-hr relay hunger strike was organized by both the organizations in front of the Raj Bhawan today to exert pressure on the Governor to remove Gamlin from chief ministership as well as to show their anger and unhappiness over the functioning of the ruling state Government.

To drive their point home, they mentioned the recent police firing at Roing, kidnaping and murder of one CS Manpoong at Namsai, rape and murder of a minor girl at Vijaynagar in Changlang, lackadaisical attitude in resolving the infamous Times of India issue etc. They also demanded immediate arrest and termination of the police personnel involved in IG Park firing incident causing death of one Heri Tai and immediate resolution of Paktu Aao issue of Aalo in West Siang district.

Later, they submitted a memorandum to the Governor demanding Gamlin’s removal by holding him responsible for the present situation of the state..

Today’s agitation was the first phase of the movement launched by the union, APITU president Bamang Tuglik said, adding the phase wise agitation would continue till the Chief Minister was removed.

Meanwhile, Arunachal Pradesh Intellectual Youth Federation (APIYF) and United Nyishi Youth Federation (UNYF) jointly condemned the demand of Chief Minister's resignation by Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Tribes Union (APITU) for his alleged inefficiency to run the government and termed it as illogical.

“Such immature demand of few individual in the name APITU is not only unconstitutional, undemocratic but also criminally liable as they are creating unrest in the state capital by constituting unlawful assembly,” both the organizations said in a joint press statement.

While describing the September 11 bandh call given by APITU as illegal, both APIYF and UNYF demanded the Government to immediately arrest the president and general secretary of APITU for creating law and order problem in the state capital.

Terming today’s Hunger Strike staged by APITU as 'Political Conspiracy" plotted by some vested interest group to tarnish the image of Chief Minister of the State, both the organizations demanded for declaring such ‘illogical’ hunger strike as ‘Unlawful Assembly’ within the meaning and definition under section 149 of IPC and arresting sponsors of the hunger strike under appropriate section of the law.

NES calls for fact finding committee

ITANAGAR, Oct 27: Nyishi Elite Society (NES) today appealed to the state Governor to direct the state Govt for constitution of an enquiry committee immediately to be headed by either sitting or retire judge of a high court to find out the cause of the police firing on Oct 11 and the culprit responsible for death of Late Heti Tai who succumbed to bullet injuries on Oct 12.

NES demanded arrest of the culprit responsible for death of late Tai immediately and award exemplary punishment as per law on Oct 16 last in order to defuse the situation and provide immediate justice, but the Govt did not make any communication till date due to which the Heri clan in particular and Nyishi community in general are feeling a sense of deprivation, said NES president Bengia Tolum.

He informed that it has sought the intervention of Governor for justice to the deceased family of late Heri Tai and Nyishi community through a memorandum  and requested him to find out the cause of Oct 11 police firing, culprit responsible and exemplary punishment to him as per law.

Reiterating its movement for justice to the Nyishi community after the derogatory remarks of Pradeep Thakur in Times of India web portal and in Deccan Chronicle  by Manoj Anand, Tolum further informed that  fight for justice will continue till the source of report is revealed and guilty punished. ‘We will not take rest till justice is made and source of the report revealed’, NES president said.

Tolum further informed that Govt was supposed to convene a joint meeting of NES, ANSU after the submission of report of two-member committee within 10 days on  the vexed issue, but the Govt  never did. Instead of finding solution to the issue the state Govt sponsored rally on Oct 11 in which late Tai lost his life due to police firing and resulted in complete breakdown of law and order situation, the NES president said.

Coming down heavily on the Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin for his alleged failure to give justice to the  Nyishi community.  The NES president further said that there is no existence of the Govt, law and order completely collapse after Oct 11 incident and the Govt completely failed to perform for the well being of the common people.

He demanded immediate resignation of the CM.

Claiming that divisive forces working overtime to split the community in the parts for their own vested interest and to dilute the core issue, NES appealed them to desist from such activities which is detrimental not only to Nyishi community but also whole of Arunachal Pradesh.

When his attention was drawn towards the TV channel statement dragging the name of former MP Kiren Rijiju on Pradeep Thakur issue, the NES president said,  the two-member committee report did not indict Rijiju. Moreover, the Rijiju had given a written statement stating that as an advisor to CM he had to communicate with the media. He also clarified the statement on TV channel, Tolum said. Even if Rijiju is indicted in Thakur issue, it is the duty of the Govt to check the sms  and voice record and take action accordingly.

DAFFS dubs MLA clarification as concocted, false and misleading

ITANAGAR, Oct 27: The Dam Affected Peoples Forum of Sirit Siyom Banggo (DAFFS) termed the clarification issued by the MLA cum Steering Committee Chairman, Tamiyo Taga regarding Lower Siang Hydro Electric Project as concocted, false and misleading and which is intended to shield his grave wrong doings to the LSHEP affected/threatened people of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam and downstream and an act to befool them further.

If the Governor has constituted any such Steering Committee years back to study the effects and benefits of the proposed hydro electric projects at Siang Valley then why is that government order not made public and circulated to the dam affected people over these years, it asked.

If the committee exists at all then on what merit such an unworthy committee is surreptitiously and maliciously constituted by the state government without involving experts on dam related issues, it further questioned.

What expertise and credibility these MLA’s, Government Officers and Four members of Adi community do have to take up the gargantuan task of studying the effects and benefits of the project, the association further asked.

Have these committee members ever ventured out to the affected people to gather any first hand information on pros and cons of the dam, it said. The organization said that the state government should immediately withdraw or terminate any such committee.

AAPSU dismayed at subdued Diwali celebration

ITANAGAR, Oct 27: All Arunachal Pradesh Students Union (AAPSU) has expressed dismay over capital complex administrations for  banning selling of fire crackers and playing of dice during Diwali festival.

In a press release AAPSU President Takam Tatung questioned what compelled state government such extreme step of banning festival celebration.

“Keeping in view the prevailing law and order problem, the banning of gambling is welcomed. However we fail to understand why the selling of firecrackers banned.  The people wait for whole year to celebrate Diwali and by banning selling of firecrackers government had dampened the spirit of celebration,” stated Takam Tatung.

Instead of making fool proof security and letting people celebrate without any fear, capital administration has traumatized citizens of capital complex by banning Diwali celebration, he said while expressing sympathy with business community of capital complex for enduring heavy loss because of ban on selling of firecrackers. While reacting to the 36 hour shutter down strike called by Itanagar Market Welfare Association, AAPSU termed this move as unfortunate. “We understand the sentiment of IMWA and they have every right to go for any democratic means seeking justice. IMWA has made life difficult for already battered citizen of Itanagar,” stated Tatung. He said IMWA can go for other democratic means like organizing dharna or peace rally to lodge protest.

AAPSU further called on central Congress leaders to clear leadership crisis of state at the earliest for the benefit of the citizens of Arunachal.

We urge Congress party to end this political drama soon or else AAPSU will be forced to start agitation against ruling government,” stated AAPSU President.

Further AAPSU has condoled the death of young student Tamer Yorpen at Aalo and called for exemplary punishment to all people who are responsible for death of such young soul.

World population and challenges

World population is estimated to hit seven billion by this month, according to a UN report. According to current projections, and with some of the world's poorest nations doubling their populations in the next decade, the second milestone will be in 2025: an eight billion population over the next 14 years.

The rise in population is expected to have a devastating impact on some 215 million women who want - but do not have - access to quality reproductive health and family planning services.

The world's five most populous countries are China, India, the United States, Indonesia, and Brazil.

A new study titled "Africa's Demographic Multiplication", points out that Africa's population has more than tripled during the second half of the 20th century, growing from 230 million to 811 million.

As a result, Africa has become more populous than Europe. Nigeria, Africa's most populous country at 158 million, is expected to grow to 730 million by century's end, making it larger than Europe's projected population of 675 million.

Experts feel that globally, the population growth rate is not as high as it has been in the past.

Fertility decline in most countries of the world has contributed to a decline in population growth rates. However, the situation is quite different in least developed countries (LDCs). In most of these countries, fertility is still high and the rate of growth is also high. In some cases, it is as high as three percent, which implies that the population in these areas will double in about 20 to 25 years.

A good foundation needed

Dear Editor,

The Editorial "Quality education is need of hour" is a very crucial topic for the future of Gen-Next and our society. A very primary task in this regard is the selection of qualified teacher fairly even for SSA teachers. The teaching ability should be tested before appointing a teacher. Tuitions should be restricted to class hours only without depriving any student. Many a times there has been wild cases surfaced due to tuitions in home either paid or free by few vested persons, but cause fear psychosis among students. Every teacher should be tested for the standard and subject he/she is teaching and ability of imparting knowledge to the students. Government should take extra care of the education policy, as how much beautiful or attractive the structure may be, a bad or wrong or both foundation will lead to the collapse of the structure.

Yours,

A concern citizen

Lower Siang and livelihoods

Dear Editor,

This is apropos to a letter captioned “Don’t deprive the unemployed” & “ Development of Siang” purported to be written by  graduate–unemployed gentleman of Siang and published on 25th October’ 2011 edition of your esteemed daily.

The letters seems to be written anonymously by some representatives of the Jaypee Group itself and if otherwise, then these “Siang unemployed graduates” sadly are endowed with deficient intellect to fail short of getting employed or self-employed ever in life. And I also have great anticipation, if people of such intellect can ever get job even if any hydro electric project comes up in the Siang basin in future. There is a faulty understanding in these blocked minds that the Jaypee Group is going to create too many jobs in the Lower Siang Hydro Electric Project. At the most, the LSHEP is going to generate only around 3000 jobs only and for which there is nothing like job reservation, etc for the affected people since the company is a private entity. Out of that number, almost all the white collar lucrative jobs will be filled up by highly qualified non-native people and for which these intellect deficient “Siang graduates” will lack the requisite qualification and attitude to fit the job of challenging dam building activities. Then remains the labour class menial jobs where some limited vacancies will be thrown to native people.

The LSHEP is going to uproot not just thousands but ten thousands of native people from their generations old settlements and culture. In a world where there is countless material wealth but a trifling of food and water is hard to get, the LSHEP is bound to snatch away livelihood of ten thousands of Siang basin dam affected people by submergence of their low lying prime agricultural lands and push them also to unending queues of 15 kgs per month PDS ration shop in the land of 1000 Crore PDS Scam called Arunachal Pradesh.

The dam affected people have seen enough of major disasters & tragedies especially Assam Earthquake of 1950 & the Siang Flood of 2001. We feel blessed that these Siang Graduates are spared by the nature and that they are also heartily alive today in this land and making noises. We the dam affected people are fighting it out to ensure that the lives of millions and millions of people settling along the Siang and Brahmaputra basin in Arunachal Pradesh & Assam and threatened by any man made/ human accentuated natural catastrophe are averted and saved.

Among other things, my humble submissions to these “Siang Graduates” are: - Can you people ensure security of food, livelihood & settlement to the ten thousands of dam uprooted people and their upcoming generations? Can you people ensure and insure security and safety of millions and millions of dam affected & threatened people and their succeeding generations settled and who would be settling along the Siang and Brahmaputra river basin in Arunachal Pradesh, Assam & downstream? Can you people ensure and guarantee healthy natural environment along these areas that can sustain healthy living to the present generations and the upcoming billions and billions of loving souls who will inhabit this land in future? What social, moral and spiritual authorities you people do have to decimate the natural home of human generations and the flora and fauna world?

My sincere most and humblest advice to these intelligent and educated “Siang graduates” is that, they should use their complete brain not just thousands but billions and billions of times before publicizing such idiotic thoughts.

This world is just perfectly vast with infinite possibilities where there is 100 percent scope of employment & self-employment for everyone but born with human mind and intellect. And if anybody claims to be un-employed graduate in this present world, I can safely conclude that the “graduate human intellect” is not gifted with and un-employment for eternity is the blessed destiny.

To my intelligent “un-employed Siang graduates”, we are simply longing to see vary large numbers of IFS, IAS, IFS, IRS, IDAS, etc officers in you. I sincerely hope and wish our collective dreams will be fulfilled some day.

Yours,

Tatin Tatak

Hindi is a necessity

Dear Editor,

With reference letter written by Kajal Chatterjee dated 26th Oct, it is difficult to understand why he is so much against the learning of Hindi in Arunachal. For him there may be no problem as all population in Kolkata speaks Bengali but for state like us where we have many different tribal dialect, and difficult to developed a common language, Hindi is not only compulsory for all but a necessity. We don’t learn Hindu because somebody brainwashed or Hindi colonialism or for proof of nationalism. We still can speak our own dialect at the same time; we all can speak Hindi that is advantage for us. It is important to teach our children a perfect mother tongue at the same time Hindi is necessity outside home. I have a friend from Kerela, and Tamil Nadu who is pursuing post graduate in Medicine, for them it is very much difficult to communicate with patients in Hospital as they don’t know even a single Hindi words, whereas other students from Arunachal has much advantage as they can freely communicate with their patient and family. The south Indian students studied in north are definitely not happy with their parent /society for not given a chance to learn Hindi although they are proud of their language.

We should not look at this as politics on Hindi but a simple or convenient medium to communicate with others as most of the people understand Hindi.

It does not make any difference for north Indian people whether we know Hindi or not, but it makes difference for us and our children if we don’t know Hindi, as our children goes out often in Hindi speaking area for further studies .It is important for us to compete with the rest of India in any field, and knowing Hindi is definitely a bonus point for us. We have a strong traditional, culture root and ethos that nobody can dilute or brainwash to the extent of extinction. Speaking Hindi can never be the reason for lost culture and identity.

Yours,

Concern Arunachalee,

The hydropower is the only kit to develop our state

Dear Editor

This is in reference to the letter development not at the cost of community written by Takar Komut on Oct 20.

Two anti dam meetings were held on Oct 14 at villages Logum Jini and Pessing both in West Siang District. On Oct 15 a combined meeting was held at Pessing village under Jomlo Mobuk administrative Circle in West Siang District.  The organizers in Pessing meetings openly advocated use of physical force against person who is in support of mega dam. We have the enough courage to express our views but it is out in our principle to create nuisance. If only the organizers of Pessing meetings had the moral fibre to hear the pro dam views.

It is my submission to all concern that whatever I am doing is only for the development of my village, my district and for my state. The hydropower is the only kit to develop our state. Evidently it will generate employment as well as revenue.   In fact it is a permanent financial contribution to the people of Siang valley

It is also fact that if these hydropower developers leave the state of Arunachal Pradesh, the local causal employees will beyond doubt lose their employment opportunity. Will Komut be able to provide the employment opportunity to them?

All the statement so far I had given are based on facts and evidence and all are my personal opinion. We understand that both central and state governments are trying to secure energy security for the nation in the face of reported activity on Siang River by our northern neighbor. In total disregard to policy and programme of the government such activities as cited above if left unchecked could have disastrous consequences for the state and the nation.

On Oct 15 a combined meeting was held at Pessing village under Jomlo Mobuk administrative Circle in West Siang District and there were non native speakers. It is my humble submission to Komut, as well all Adi organization to kindly restrain to invite these people and not to be overwhelmed by these people to take any decision at our great kebang system.

Yours,

The infinite to do list

Dear Editor,

I would to draw attention of every organization, prevailing in our state. That there are vast area in which they can ignite their intellectual immune system rather than functioning as android for some vanity political interest. Politically saying if you want a leader, then choice a leader on basis of his ability to lead mass people. Look at our streets, health centers, schools in all remote areas, and even our colleges they are all calling your attentions, saying that they are dying but eagerly willing to serve us. Play politics on the basis of symbiosis to mend. Please analyses everything before carrying out your task and even publishing your interest here at this daily. If you really want to see changing face of our state please pave path for mass education, check  function of every political leaders, bureaucrats, business man and even contractors. Chalk out whether they are function well enough or not. If so, then I can say that my brothers and sisters you will even not get time to brush your teeth because there is indefinite list of task that you have to rectify for the sake of your state.

Yours,

Taz Yumlam Bai,
